Human beings are attracted to fairly places. The places often occur naturally such as The Great Smokey Mountains during rhododendron season or Montgomery Bell State Park during October. The colors and scents stimulate our senses. Often, we take these beautiful images and recreate them so that we might enjoy a particular sensual experience over and over again. Some of the most famous botanical gardens in the nation are best known for their rhododendron collections and their trees with outstanding fall color. Is it possible to have some of that natural beauty in our every day lives?

One of the things that we do without fail is improve the access of our contrived gorgeous destination so that we do not really have to climb a mountain or hike a trail. Steps, sidewalks, patios, and paved paths all work to make a garden experience easy and pleasurable. Let’s face it; if you only have a minute to stop and smell the roses, you want to be able to do it without changing your shoes.

Hard surfaces allow for a fresh way to experience the good outdoors. It’s also a good way to share gorgeous outdoor spaces with family and friends. A patio is an accessible place to stand or sit and take in a lovely view. It lets the inside of the come flow and become the outside of the home. Patios can be constructed from numerous different types of building materials. Stone, brick, poured or stamped concrete, or pavers each have beauty in their own right. There is a difficult surface to suit any budget. Sidewalks and paths can either compliment or contrast attractively with the patio that will become an extension of the home.

A good way for a homeowner to perceive the potential of their outdoor spaces is to blend a garden with a room. The trees and plants become the walls. The sky is the ceiling. The patio is the flooring material. Exterior options abound in much the same way they do in interior design. Recreating a favorite family vacation can be done with hard surfaces around the home so that a retreat is built for the family to move in and out. We might not really be able to pack up and go, but we sure can take a little time and let go while we get a handle on the hectic world around us.
