After virtually 5 decades of assisting folk in keeping their things cold, the omnipresent Coleman ice chest lately celebrated grand 50 years of service. Sheldon Coleman was the main person under whose direction this company was set up and developed from a tiny organization into one of the number 1 recreation corporations in the world. During his starting stages, Sheldon Coleman was one of the ardent and keen outside salesperson and even idealist business leaders who used to serve as a General Chief and a President of this company since’53.

Initially the Coleman Company introduced its first ice chests in the year ‘54. Since then, Coleman Company has made more than 150 million ice chests in assorted areas which include Texas, New Braunfels, Kan and Wichita. Coleman Company is at present the 3rd domestic cooler makers and the sole steel cooler makers.

Their early Coleman ice chest was painted heavy steel chests with oblong lines and fiberglass insulation. These coolers were less than perfect for their conscious use however were trustworthy with the commercial technology.

It didn’t take a long time for Coleman to enhance the standard of Coleman ice chest because in the year’57, this company became the 1st makers to incorporate plastic liners into its coolers. These plastic liners were ingenious in keeping the ice as they didn’t soak up the food odour, didn’t rust and were straightforward to clean. Besides this company also improved the insulation part of their Coleman ice chests by swapping to polystyrene beads to fiberglass beads. This company also nick named the plastic liner and steel case mix as “Snow Lite”.

The product developers and engineers at this company kept on making many improvements. This included the improvement in bottoms of the plastics which would generally rust and scratch kind of like the metal and zinc coated steel ones. Another crucial change was the invention of urethane insulation that increased the insulation components of polystyrene without skyrocketing its width. A chunk of flexible fiberboard was also added between the urethane foam and the outer surface of liner to protect it from cracking when dropped.

There were several alterations that happened for years however fundamentally the similar steel coolers were made from’65 till ‘94. It was in the year’94, Coleman Company made a decision to cease the production. All thru the 90’s, this company was overpowered with many requests from its shoppers to introduce steel coolers. The purchasers generally had a preference for conventional feel and look, the ruggedness and consistent performance of characteristic outside ice chests. in the year 2001, Coleman did make a response to the demands of its consumers and introduced chrome steel Coleman ice chests.

Although, the normal feel and appearance of this model had been preserved this Coleman ice chest was provided a modern facelift with rounded edges and corners and smoother liners. Glorious performance was even improved thanks to the thicker insulation, beefy metal latch and tighter lid to fit the cooler correctly. At the moment Coleman ice chest can be seen at picnics, gatherings, campsites and lots of other out of doors events which folks come together.
