Different types of pavers can be used for driveways and sidewalks and more. The pavers are very sturdy and do not crack as cement does when the earth moves or settles. If one happens to crack, it can be taken out and replaced. A bit of detergent with water that is brushed on pavers can be used to keep them clean. Pavers can be used for walkways, driveways, decorating, and more.

Pavers are made of many different materials, some stronger then others. Depending on what they are made of, can determine where a person might want to put them. Brick is the common material used as it is environmentally friendly and of low maintenance. Brick being skid resistant, is good to use in walkways and driveways.

Some of the different pavers are made from clay or stone. They can be reclaimed street pavers, antiques or cobblestones. A few shapes to pick from include w and x shaped, keyhole, parallelogram or fan shape. Colors vary from natural tones, red, buffs, green, and earthy browns to name a few.

For the people who live where it gets very cold or very hot, concrete pavers would be the best as they move without cracking. The pavers can be formed into many shapes and most are fans, pentagons, hexagons, x or y shapes, keyhole, and parallelogram. The colors vary from white, stone, sand, yellow, pinks to browns.

The pavers that are made from stone that is mined from a quarry, can be expensive but not always. The stones that are used are sandstone, limestone, blue stone and granite, to name some. For a pool deck the granite or limestone would best to use because if it is left unpolished, is not slippery. All of the other named stones and others would make nice beautiful walkways. They are made in oblong, hexagon, octagon, diamond, square and rectangle shapes.

Another nice stone for pool decks is flagstone, as it does not absorb heat and is resistant to cracks in the cold zones. It does make a beautiful driveway that gets high use and it is very low maintenance. It usually last more than 30 years. It normally comes in natural shapes but can be found in spectrum, squares, hexagon, rectangles and diamond, and many more.

Different types of pavers can be used for driveways and sidewalks to create interesting designs. With the clay brick pavers, there are some standard designs that are cost effective and not too complicated for the contractor to lay. This needs to be kept in mind when creating a pattern. Some patterns used that are common are basket weave, herringbones, and stretcher bond. The herringbone pattern is great for driveways as it can withstand heavy loads.

Cobblestone pavers have been enjoyed for literally centuries. When travelers decided that something needed to be done about dirt roads, these stones were the first to be used. Their charm and quaintness are undeniable. Some make you feel like you have gone back in time. In some cases, you really have because many older applications have been preserved. It is no wonder that their popularity is only increasing today.

Before discussing these stones, it is important to understand that cobblestone is not a type of stone. It is the process of cobbling stones to produce cobble stone surfaces.

Stones collected from riverbeds were the first cobblestones. Now this does not have to be done because there are more efficient ways to get the look. Materials such as sandstone, granite, limestone, concrete, and asphalt are all commonly used. Some people consider the only true cobblestone material to be granite. Almost any variety of stone can be used.

There are several applications for cobblestone. Patios, pathways, stepping stones, porches, driveways, and gardens can all be made with this process.

The colors and patterns available are just about endless. Gray, terra cotta, charcoal, red, sand, and most other colors can be purchased. A popular trend is to combine two or more contrasting colors to produce a customized pattern for your own landscape.

One of the best cobblestone materials is granite. Many people, however, can not afford the price of granite. A popular choice is either asphalt or concrete processed with the look of granite and other stones. Some traditional homeowners will not use anything but real granite. They know the difference, although to guests, there will be no visual difference than with the granite. The same look can be acquired for much less money. However, using asphalt or granite does has some drawbacks. These less expensive materials can let water permeate their surfaces causing some fading or cracking. Granite which water can not permeate does not usually have these problems. Only the homeowner can decide which is best for his home.

Cobblestone in any variety is known for having excellent durability. It is also usually easy to fix if damaged. Just the part that has the damage needs to be repaired. It has an exceptionally long life. It can be enjoyed for many years.

Pattern and style choice is only limited by the homeowners imagination. He must decide what color or colors to use, and whether he wants a more modern or classical look. Either choice will be beautiful.

Cobblestone pavers have many advantages. They add beauty, and in many cases, value to a home. They certainly can add a charm to any landscape. They are definitely something for a homeowner to consider.
